Definisjon: 
En samling av funn som inkluderer abdominal fedme og insulinresistens, og i tillegg flere av faktorene dyslipidemi, hypertensjon, nedsatt glukosetoleranse
Forekomst:
Prevalens varierer med definisjon, men den er økende
Symptomer:
Tilstanden gir i tidlig fase få symptomer, men den er karakterisert ved abdominal overvekt og lite fysisk aktivitet
Funn:
Hypertensjon, abdominal fedme
Diagnostikk:
Økt KMI, forhøyede triglyserider, lav HDL-kolesterol, forhøyet glukose eller redusert glukosetoleranse
Behandling:
Hovedbehandlingen er kostholdsendringer og økt fysisk aktivitet for å oppnå vektreduksjon og bedring av de øvrige risikofaktorene
