Definisjon:
Trombedannelse i de store, dype venene, spesielt i lår, bekken og legg, samt i arm-skulderregionen
Forekomst: 
Aldersjustert årlig insidens for kvinner ca. 110 per 100 000 per år og for menn ca. 130 per 100 000 per år
Symptomer:
Betennelsestegn som smerte, varme, rødhet, hevelse og nedsatt funksjon i en ekstremitet
Funn:
Oftest ensidig leggødem, palpasjonssmerte, rubor og temperaturøkning på affisert side, samt venestuvning
Diagnostikk:
Henvises spesialist. Diagnosen bekreftes ved kompresjons-ultralyd vener, subsidiært venografi, ev. CT/MR venografi
Behandling:
Antikoagulasjon med LMWH, DOAK eller warfarin
