Definisjon:
Malignt mesoteliom er en aggressiv, behandlingsresistent svulstsykdom, oftest i pleura, og som i 90% av tilfellene skyldes asbesteksposisjon
Forekomst:
Internasjonalt er insidensen 0,9 tilfeller per 100.000
Symptomer:
Sparsomme og ukarakteristiske som brystsmerter og pustevansker
Funn:
Lungeforandringene kan gi funn ved perkusjon og auskultasjon
Diagnostikk:
Diagnosen bekreftes histologisk etter pleurabiopsi tatt blindt, CT eller ultralyd veiledet eller ved torakoskopi
Behandling:
Alternativene er kirurgi, kjemoterapi, strålebehandling og kombinasjoner av disse
