Definisjon:
Ukontrollert inflammasjonsreaksjon i lunger som raskt fører til respirasjonssvikt
Forekomst:
Stor variasjon i oppgitt insidens. Minst 13,5 tilfeller pr. 100 000/år
Symptomer:
Dyspné, takypné, åpenbart alvorlig syk pasient
Funn:
Ofte funn assosiert med sepsis, fravær av tegn på kardiogent lungeødem. Uttalt hypoksi
Diagnostikk:
Bilaterale infiltrater på rtg. thorax
Behandling:
Korrigering av utløsende årsak (infeksjon) og respirasjonsstøtte (respirator)
