Postural takykardisyndrom (POTS)

Definisjon:
Tilstand som karakteriseres ved takykardi i oppreist stilling, uten samtidig ortostatisk hypotensjon. Årsaken er ukjent, men antas å skyldes en form for autonom nevropati.
Forekomst:
Relativ sjelden tilstand. Hyppigst hos ungdom og yngre voksne, jente:gutt ratio 5:1.
Symptomer:
Pasientene blir svimmel, "lett i hodet", svak i beina, får utydelig syn og generell kraftløshet. Noen får hevelser i bena og cyanose i fingre eller tær i oppreist stilling. 
Funn:
Ved undersøkelse ses pulsøkning, ofte hvilepuls over 120 i stående stilling, blodtrykk normalt.
Diagnostikk:
Diagnosen sannsynliggjøres ved typiske symptomer og samtidig økt puls og normalt blodtrykk i stående stilling, med bedring når man legger seg ned.
Behandling:
Viktigste behandling er mosjon, økt fysisk aktivitet. Noen medikamenter er utprøvd, men det mangler god dokumentasjon for langtidseffekter. Prognosen er generelt god, men noen får langvarige plager.
