Hjernemetastaser

Definisjon:
Skyldes hematogen spredning av kreftsykdom til hjernen fra en primærtumor beliggende et annet sted i kroppen
Forekomst:
20-50% av kreftpasientene utvikler i løpet av sykdommen hjernemetastaser
Symptomer:
Allminnelige kliniske manifestasjoner er nevrologiske utfallssymptomer, psykisk endring, hodepine, kvalme, oppkast og tretthet
Funn:
Kan være fokalnevrologiske utfall og tegn på økt intrakranielt trykk
Diagnostikk:
MR er den mest sensitive undersøkelsen til påvisning av små metastaser
Behandling:
Mulighetene er kirurgi, gammakniv ("strålekniv"), stereotaktisk strålebehandling, fullhjernebestråling (radioterapi), steroidbehandling, kjemoterapi
