Postpartum blødning (> 500 ml) er en potensielt livstruende komplikasjon til både vaginal forløsning og keisersnitt
Forekomst:
Alvorlig blødning postpartum (> 1000 ml) forekommer hos 5%
Symptomer: 
Unormal blødning postpartum
Funn:
Unormalt stor blødning, ev. sjokkutvikling
Diagnostikk:
Hgb, hct, ev. DIC-status
Behandling:
Intensivbehandling og akutt kirurgi for å stanse blødningen
