Brennende munn-syndrom (BMS)

Definisjon:
En tilstand som kjennetegnes av en brennende følelse i tungen eller munnhulen, men som ikke kan forklares ved hjelp av klinikk eller laboratoriefunn
Forekomst:
Tilstanden er sjelden. Hyppigst blant postmenopausale kvinner
Symptomer:
Ofte er flere typer ubehag knyttet til tilstanden, som brennende fornemmelse i munnhulen, munntørrhet og smaksendring
Funn:
Kliniske funn mangler
Diagnostikk:
Tilleggsundersøkelser er blodprøver for å utelukke infeksjon, anemi vitaminmangel eller annen sykdom
Behandling:
Ingen medikamentelle alternativer har tilfredsstillende dokumentasjon av effekt. Forsøksvis behandling som ved nevropatisk smerte er aktuelt
