Definisjon:
Inflammasjon i én eller flere paranasale sinus med varighet over 3 måneder. Etiologien er som regel kompleks. Allergi, irritasjon av slimhinnen, polypper og anatomiske forhold kan disponere.
Forekomst:
Tilstanden rammer flest yngre og middelaldrende mennesker.
Symptomer:
Nesetetthet, fremre/bakre sekresjon fra nese, smerter/press i midtansikt og reduksjon/tap av luktesans.
Funn:
ØNH-undersøkelse og rhinoskopi (fremre og bakre) kan underbygge diagnosen.
Diagnostikk:
Klassiske symptomer kombinert med objektive funn av slimhinneforandringer. CT utføres først og fremst ved kompliserte, langvarige eller behandlingsresistent forløp, før kirurgisk behandling eller ved mistanke om annen alvorlig sykdom.
Behandling:
Vedlikeholdsbehandling med nasale steroider er hjørnesten. Kan i tillegg omfatte saltvannsskylling, ev. systemiske steroider og kirurgi.
