Definisjon:
Degenerative forandringer i hofteleddet med varierende ødeleggelse av leddbrusk og ombygging av leddnært ben
Forekomst:
Prevalens ved symptomgivende primær artrose ved alder over 55 år angis å være ca. 1,6%, og den øker sterkt med alderen
Symptomer:
Gradvis utvikling av smerter lokalisert i lysken fortil og noen ganger lateralt på låret, ofte strålende ned mot kneet. Startsmerter, etter hvert hvile- og nattsmerter
Funn:
Tidlige tegn på hofteleddsartrose er smerte og innskrenket bevegelighet ved passiv innadrotasjon, passiv fleksjon og passiv abduksjon
Diagnostikk:
Røntgen bekrefter diagnosen
Behandling:
Primært økt fysisk aktivitet og opptrening, ev. bruk av lindrende medisiner. Standardbehandlingen ved invalidiserende artrose hos dem over 50 år er innsetting av hofteprotese
