Definisjon:
En progressiv løsning av sansecellelaget fra underliggende pigmentepitel i retina. Kan være primær uten kjent årsak, eller sekundær til betennelser, blødninger, traumer, svær myopi. Oftest som følge av aldersforandringer
Forekomst:
Insidens oppgis til 1:10.000
Symptomer: 
Plutselig innsettende smertefritt synstap, ofte perifert i synsfeltet - "som en gardin som trekkes ned", sentralsynet er bevart inntil makula affiseres. Lysglimt og flekker som flyter, kan opptre forut for løsningen
Funn: 
Svekket rød refleks. Netthinneløsning ses ved oftalmoskopi, ev. med dilatert pupille. 
Diagnostikk:
Henv. øyelege for diagnostikk og behandling.
Behandling:
Laser, cryopexy, gassinjeksjon, eller annen kirurgi
