Definisjon:
Kronisk og åpenbart urimelig angst for en rekke dagligdagse situasjoner hvor en møter andre mennesker eller der vedkommende skal prestere noe overfor andre
Forekomst:
Livstidsprevalens er anslått til 3-13%, men kun 1-3% er vesentlig hemmet av sykdommen
Symptomer:
Pasientene opplever angst, oftest med autonome symptomer, når de er sammen med andre mennesker. Ofte får de tanker om at samværet vil ende i katastrofe
Funn:
Klinisk undersøkelse er normal. Under angstanfall er det som regel autonome symptomer som raskpuls/hjertebank, lufthunger/hyperventilering, svetting og motorisk uro
Diagnostikk:
Ev. ytterligere undersøkelser kan være spørreskjematester
Behandling:
Behandlingen er kognitiv atferdsterapi eller andre psykoterapiformer og/eller medisinering med antidepressiva
