Definisjon:
Gjentatte presentasjoner av vedvarende og subjektivt forstyrrende somatiske symptomer til tross for gjentatte negative funn og forsikringer fra legen om at symptomene ikke har noe somatisk grunnlag
Forekomst:
Tilstanden er overrepresentert i helsetjenesten, men mindre vanlig i et befolkningsperspektiv
Symptomer:
Kan henføres til hvilket som helst organsystem eller kombinasjon av slike. Et betydelig antall symptomer kan foreligge
Funn:
Normale kliniske funn
Diagnostikk:
Ingen prøver er av diagnostisk betydning annet enn differensialdiagnostisk
Behandling:
Innebærer å formidle en plausibel forklaringsmodell for kroppsymptomer uten påvist organisk sykdom, og å forklare pasientens plager i denne modellen. Ellers samtaleterapi og kognitiv behandling
