Irukandji syndrom

Definisjon:
Irukandji syndrom er en potensielt livstruende tilstand forårsaket av en liten kubemanet (ca. 2 cm diameter, fire tentakler)
Forekomst:
50-100 tilfeller blir innlagt årlig i Australia
Symptomer:
Som regel milde, systemiske symptom som følge av katekolamin-stigning (hjertebank, hypertensjon, smerter) etterfulgt av hypotensjon, i sjeldne tilfeller lungeødem og hjertekomplikasjoner
Funn:
Smerter og hudreaksjon i stikksted. Kan gi utslag på både blodprøver og EKG. 
Diagnostikk:
Klinisk diagnose, hjerteenzymer og EKG er viktig for å vurdere alvorlighetsgrad 
Behandling:
Som regel ingen ut over smertelindring, men sykehusinnleggelse og hjerte-/lungebehandling kan bli aktuelt
